(AP). La tasa de crecimiento demográfico de China se está acercando a cero debido a que menos parejas tienen hijos, anunció el martes el gobierno, lo que se suma a las tribulaciones de una sociedad que envejece y que tiene una fuerza de trabajo menguante.

La población aumentó en 72 millones en la última década hasta alcanzar los 1.411 millones en 2020, según la Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas. El crecimiento anual promedio fue del 0,53%.

Los dirigentes chinos han impuesto límites a la natalidad desde 1980 para frenar el crecimiento demográfico, pero les preocupa que la población en edad de trabajar esté disminuyendo demasiado rápido, lo que afectaría los planes de crear una economía próspera.

El gobierno ha relajado los límites de natalidad, pero las parejas se desaniman por los elevados costos, la escasez de viviendas y la discriminación laboral que sufren las madres.
